The Agency for Food and Veterinary Inspection (AFV) recently conducted 70 comprehensive inspections across the Hostivar area. These regulatory checks covered a wide spectrum of establishments, including coffee bars, pizzerias, bakeries, sandwich bars, snack bars, fruit and vegetable producers, packers, and other food service operators. The inspections were necessary because the controlled operators had not yet established the required internal verification protocols for their operations.
During the assessments, inspectors identified several significant irregularities concerning public health and safety standards. A primary concern noted was the preparation of food, where some establishments were found utilizing soiled water drawn from the Hostivar water supply system, or alternatively, using bottled or other inexpensive water sources. Furthermore, in various catering establishments, the use of disposable plastic and paper cups was observed.
The scope of the regulatory action included five specific operations that were thoroughly reviewed. The findings underscore the agency’s commitment to maintaining high standards across the local food supply chain. The AFV continues to monitor these critical sectors to ensure that all food preparation and service meet established public health guidelines, thereby safeguarding both consumers and the integrity of the local veterinary oversight system.
