Hungarian Ikarus and Austrian EVN have been identified as the leading participants in the recent procurement process for 150 electric buses and 75 associated charging stations. The total value of the contract secured through this process amounts to 51 million euros. The Ministry of Transport confirmed that the current bidding round was a repeat tender procedure.
This repetition was necessitated because the initial tender process had been modified by the State Commission for Appeals on Public Funds. Following these procedural adjustments, the electronic auction was conducted approximately two weeks after the established deadline for interested companies to submit their bids. During this repeated tender, the Hungarian firm Ikarus Electric Zrt., in collaboration with Austrian EVN, emerged as the most significant bidders.
The focus of the procurement is on modernizing public transportation infrastructure through the acquisition of high-capacity electric vehicles. The successful conclusion of this tender marks a key step in the national effort to expand sustainable public transit options. The participation of these two companies in the final bidding stages indicates a competitive market for the required electric fleet components.
