Filcio: Crna Gora has historical potential, Slovakia supports membership in the EU until 2028

The President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, recently met with the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, in Bratislava. During the meeting, Prime Minister Fico affirmed the full support of Slovakia for Montenegro’s stated objective of achieving European Union membership by 2028. The discussions between the two leaders encompassed several areas of bilateral cooperation, focusing specifically on initiating economic partnerships, potential investments, and developing concrete joint projects between the nations.

The dialogue between Milatović and Fico built upon previous engagements. Their talks continued the momentum established during an earlier meeting held in Titovo Užice, which took place during the European Union and Western Balkans Summit, at which Montenegro participated as a guest. During that prior summit, Fico had expressed appreciation for the hospitality extended by Montenegro and provided positive commentary on the atmosphere in Titovo Užice.

Reinforcing the trajectory of regional integration, Fico reiterated Slovakia’s commitment to the EU accession process. He stated that Montenegro possesses the historical potential necessary to successfully complete its accession journey. Mirroring this sentiment, President Milatović echoed the confidence, asserting that Montenegro “has the historical possibility to successfully complete the process of accession.” The meeting underscored a deepening strategic relationship, solidifying Slovakia’s endorsement of Montenegro’s path toward European integration.
