France Reports First Ebola Case During Ongoing Epidemic
France has reported its first confirmed case of Ebola as part of the ongoing epidemic in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). A doctor who returned from a humanitarian mission in the DRC has tested positive for the virus, according to the French Ministry of Health. “Skaï Њуз” reported the announcement.
The doctor is currently in isolation as authorities monitor and identify all individuals who had contact with him. The Ministry of Health stated that the risk to the wider European population is considered low. The Ebola epidemic in the DRC, which has already resulted in over 1,000 confirmed cases and at least 267 deaths, represents the highest number of cases recorded during the initial month of the outbreak, according to data from the World Health Organization (WHO).
The WHO continues to track the progression of the ebola epidemic. Investigations are underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the infection and to implement preventative measures. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
