Dmitriev Suggests Trilateral Talks with Ukraine Dependent on Economic Discussions
Moscow – Special representative of Putin, Kirill Dmitriev, has indicated that trilateral talks involving Russia, Ukraine, and the United States could commence once appropriate discussions regarding Russian-American economic and energy matters are concluded. Speaking on May 18th, Dmitriev addressed the ongoing pause in peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, stating that the potential for trilateral discussions remains a consideration. Dmitriev confirmed that continued dialogue is occurring between Moscow and Washington, with recent meetings involving Steve Wittkopf and Jared Kushner.
“Yesterday we had a meeting with Steve Wittkopf and Jared Kushner. So, dialogue continues and there is ongoing communication,” he stated. The Kremlin previously announced a pause in the peace process between Russia and Ukraine, but Moscow maintains its expectation for continued negotiations at various levels.
Dmitriev emphasized that the timing of trilateral talks with Ukraine is contingent upon the advancement of broader economic and energy discussions with the United States. He indicated that these talks are currently underway. The focus remains on sustained communication between the parties as they explore pathways toward a resolution concerning Ukraine.
