Public Sector Data Reveals Ethnic Composition Trends
New data released by the Registration Office for the public sector indicates a significant ethnic breakdown within Macedonia’s government institutions. The figures, covering 2025 and updated from 2024, highlight the representation of ethnic Albanians across various levels of government. At the state level, Macedonians constitute 66.35% of the population, while ethnic Albanians account for 12.73%.
Notably, a higher proportion of arrests – 40% – are among the ethnic Albanian population at this level. Within ministries, the data reveals a similar trend. Macedonian employees represent 66.35% of the total workforce, with ethnic Albanians comprising 26.03% of the employed.
A smaller percentage, 3% of the population, are represented by other employees. The overall number of public sector employees increased to 129,793 in 2024, with an additional 2,471 employees added to the workforce. However, when analyzed by ethnic affiliation and considering the overall population, the number of employees decreases.
These figures underscore the demographic composition of Macedonia’s public sector and represent a key element of the country’s population data.
