A woman, aged 82, was discovered unconscious near the Beti Lou Samer pool at the Johnson Ranch in the San Tan Valley on June 11th. The situation escalated after the woman reportedly fell asleep and spent approximately an hour in the Arizona heat. Passersby located her suffering from severe heatstroke and extensive burns.
According to her daughter, Michele Gabriel, the burns were significant, affecting the entire front portion of the woman’s body down to the muscles and bone. Upon discovery, she was immediately covered with wet cloths and moved to a shaded area. She was subsequently transported to the Yavapai Burn Center.
Medical professionals diagnosed the woman with third-degree burns, shock, and damage to both her liver and kidneys. Gabriel also stated that the burns covered approximately 30 percent of her body and were not solely attributable to sun exposure. The incident highlighted the critical nature of severe environmental exposure and heat-related emergencies in the region.
