Milena Bogojavlenska, a 51-year-old Macedonian woman, has been sentenced to the shortest possible six-year prison term in Australia. The conviction stemmed from the neglect of her 85-year-old neighbor, Loelin Watchen, which resulted in the older woman’s death. The woman pleaded guilty to the charges, and the sentence is to be served over a six-year period.
The incident took place in Melbourne in July of this year. According to reports, Bogojavlenska strangled the old woman before concealing the body within a cage and disposing of it in the Maribyrnong River. The remains were discovered two days later by a passing fisherman.
During the investigation, authorities found that Bogojavlenska had stolen various personal belongings from the neighbor’s residence, including money, jewelry, bank cards, and personal documents. The stolen funds were subsequently used by the woman to purchase items such as lottery tickets, vouchers, clothing, and iPads, with the total expenditure amounting to 4,000 Australian dollars.
