Polyethylene constitutes approximately one-third of global plastic production and has extensive applications, notably in the packaging of food, as well as in plastic cups, foils, and various consumer goods. Historically, it was thought to be one of the less active microplastic species. However, the research established that repeated exposure to polyethylene itself can induce biological effects.
