Conversely, the region faces contrasting challenges during the warmer months. The summer season has been marked by severe drought conditions.
Water levels in major rivers have dropped substantially; for instance, the Danube has, in certain locations, reached depths as low as 50 centimeters. These declines represent drops of three to five meters, directly impacting the operational capacity of hydroelectric and nuclear power plants that rely on consistent water flow. Adding to the seasonal instability, recent temperature fluctuations, with readings dropping from 37 to 40 degrees, have raised ongoing concerns.
These cumulative weather patterns—ranging from seasonal flooding and deep freezes to persistent drought conditions over multiple years—collectively present a consistent challenge to the stability of the economy, infrastructure, and tourism sector across Macedonia.
