During June and July, the border control operations at the “Ohridsko Jezero” station conducted enhanced measures targeting illegal fishing practices within the waters of Ohridsko Jezero lake. Authorities conducted a total of 44 monitoring control points over the specified period. As a result of these actions, law enforcement arrested two individuals in connection with illegal fishing activities at the Politsika station.
Following the arrests, two criminal cases were formally presented against the detained parties. The comprehensive inspections led to the confiscation of significant amounts of illegal fishing gear. Officials seized a total of 25 fishing nets, which measured a combined length of four kilometers and 900 meters.
Furthermore, the authorities confiscated various nets deemed strictly prohibited for use within the protected waters of the lake. In addition to the illegal netting materials, the police also seized 702 parchment units of Ohrid whitefish, each measuring 10 centimeters in thickness. These seizures underscore the ongoing enforcement efforts by the station to ensure compliance with fishing regulations in the sensitive ecosystem of Ohridsko Jezero.
