As of July 27, 2026, Macedonian health authorities reported a total of 100 registered cases of West Nile fever. According to the Institute of Public Health (IPH), the surveillance data indicated that 10 of these instances were confirmed, with one additional case classified as probable. Epidemiological tracking revealed that six autochthonous cases were recorded in Skopje, alongside one case in Skopje linked to a history of transmission in Greece.
However, the incubation period for the disease accounts for potential residence in Macedonia. Focusing on a specific subset of registered cases—totaling eight—the demographic breakdown showed seven male patients and one female patient. In terms of age distribution, the highest incidence rate was observed among individuals over 60 years old, accounting for six of the documented instances.
Two additional cases were identified within the 50-59 age bracket. A critical finding from the 2026 surveillance was that every registered case was associated with a neuroinvasive infection requiring hospitalization. These figures contribute to the ongoing monitoring of West Nile fever activity within the region.
