Strong winds reaching up to 134 kilometers per hour caused significant storms across Macedonia yesterday. The severe weather resulted in substantial damage, including fallen tree branches, damaged roofs, and the destruction of several vehicles and homes. Dozens of cars were also reported as damaged by the storm.
The Hydrometeorological Department (HMD) issued a warning, declaring a storm for an exceptional meteorological phenomenon in the affected regions. Specific measurements confirm the intensity of the weather event. At the Automatic Meteorological Station in Shtip, a storm was recorded at 17:00 with a maximum wind speed of 134 kilometers per hour, originating from a west-northwest direction towards the Decan Valley.
Similarly, at the Automatic Meteorological Station in Skopje, a storm was recorded at 16:10, registering a maximum wind speed of 130 kilometers per hour from the northwest. The HMD noted the significance of these measurements, recalling a previous instance of similar intensity. The last time a storm was declared in Shtip, recording a maximum wind speed of 134 kilometers per hour from a west-northwest direction to the Decan Valley, was in July 2012.
