During the National Council for European Integration, SDSM leader on the national council, Venco Filipce, addressed the party and highlighted the pace of regional integration efforts. Speaking on the significance of European advancement, Filipce asserted that Macedonia currently stands out as the sole candidate country that has not yet achieved a significant breakthrough in its accession process. Filipce assessed that while the broader region is making tangible progress, Macedonia’s current trajectory is one of stagnation.
He emphasized that the European Union has repeatedly framed achieving a breakthrough as a primary objective for the bloc. “We monitor the region’s progress daily. Regrettably, we find ourselves impeding that momentum,” stated Filipce.
He cautioned that inaction while the surrounding region advances would effectively constitute a regression. The statement underscored the necessity of achieving a clear political milestone. According to Filipce, the political landscape requires a definitive breakthrough declaration to ensure Macedonia can participate fully in future negotiations and discussions.
He noted that, at present, Macedonia remains the only candidate nation without an open declaration regarding its definitive intentions for integration. The remarks from Filipce, representing the SDSM, signaled a call for accelerated diplomatic action to align the country’s status with the pace of its neighbors.
