Vice Premier and Minister of Transport, Aleksandar Nikoloski, reported on ongoing efforts with the European Union to develop documentation for a significant railway connection. The initial segment of this project will link Skopje and Tetovo, with a second phase planned to incorporate Kichevo. The final phase is scheduled to connect with Ohrid, Struga, and the Republic of Albania.
Nikoloski stated that the initiative aims to realize a long-sought goal, which he anticipates will significantly reduce travel times and traffic congestion. He emphasized that intensive work is currently underway on the project. Regarding timelines, he expressed hope that the first visible construction work could commence within the next year.
He projected that travel time between the centers of Tetovo and Skopje could eventually be reduced to half an hour. He noted that these planned activities represent a continuation of the existing “Urban railway” project. The phased approach ensures a structured development of the national rail network.
The inclusion of Albania in the final phase underscores the regional scope of the planned railway improvements.
