A fire has spread from the suburbs of Thessaloniki, Greece’s second-largest city, prompting the firefighting service to issue evacuation orders for three surrounding suburbs. The blaze began in a valley within the suburbs around 8:30 p.m. and rapidly spread into the adjacent mountainous areas, with burning grass identified as the primary cause.
The Greek Fire Brigade is currently managing the incident, conducting operations that include both firefighting efforts and the evacuation of residential structures. Official warnings have been issued instructing residents of the villages of Antoupoli, Filothei, and Galini to evacuate immediately. In addition to residential evacuations, the facility designated to house 157 individuals has also been cleared.
Authorities have confirmed that approximately 120 of the remaining residents have been transferred to a local psychiatric hospital. Furthermore, authorities have announced that the remaining 157 individuals are slated for accommodation at a psychiatric hospital.
