European Court Case Addresses Fair Trial Concerns in Former Macedonian Cases
The European Court of Human Rights is currently reviewing a case concerning alleged violations of fair trial procedures involving individuals prosecuted by the former Special Prosecutor’s Office in North Macedonia. The proceedings, ongoing in Strazburg, focus on the circumstances surrounding the termination of legal protections afforded to the accused. Official statements related to the case have not addressed the reported illegality of the sentences previously imposed on former President Ivanov, nor have they detailed the influence of investigative findings – often referred to as “the truth” – that led to sentence reductions.
Following the developments, political parties, including SDSM, are reportedly attempting to generate public confusion through accusations. Authorities are urging clarification of the situation and calling for specific actions. These include reactivating criminal investigations against Zoran Zaev pertaining to two cases, Zoran Veresevski for two cases, his wife Sonja, and Brankic Jankovski.
Furthermore, the investigation is seeking to secure the detention of €320,000 for Branko Crvenkovski and other SDSM officials who were allegedly subject to governmental pressure. The Strazburg case remains central to these ongoing legal considerations.
