Activists and Citizens Stage Protest March Demanding Ecological Standards
A group of ecological activists and citizens staged a protest march, dubbed “Stop za Usje,” before the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Spatial Planning (MŽSPP) on Wednesday evening. The demonstration centered on a demand for adherence to European ecological standards in the review of a request from the Cetmanatnica “Usje” (Titan Group) for the renewal of its A-integrated permit. The activists, part of the “Stop za Usje” initiative, are voicing concerns regarding the proposed renewal.
They are calling for the ministry to uphold established ecological benchmarks during the decision-making process. The request for permit renewal was submitted on May 22nd and subsequently published online. Protestors carried banners with slogans such as “No new permit according to old rules,” “Health before profit,” and “Skopje for the people, not for industry.” The demonstration highlights ongoing concerns regarding environmental regulations and industrial development within the region.
The event underscores a continued effort by ecological activists to influence policy decisions related to environmental protection.
