A new earthquake with a magnitude of 4.3 struck the Greek island of Evia

New Earthquake Reported Off Greek Coast Near Athens

A new earthquake with a magnitude of 4.3 occurred in the marine region north of the Evia islands, near Athens, early this morning, according to Greek authorities. Initial reports indicate no injuries or damage have been reported. The earthquake took place at 5:13 AM local time, according to the Institute of Geodynamics at the National Observatory of Athens.

The epicenter was located 9 kilometers southwest of Prokopija, at a depth of 16.4 kilometers. Seismologists attribute the tremor to the aftershock following a previous 5.2 magnitude earthquake that occurred last week. That event was widely felt across Athens and central Greece.

Efthymios Lekas, President of the Organization for Earthquake Planning & Protection (OASP), stated on state broadcaster ERT that the series of aftershocks are proceeding normally and there is no cause for concern. Further monitoring is underway to assess the situation. The event highlights ongoing seismic activity in the region.
