18 killed in Russian airstrikes on Kyiv – Zelenskyy alarms on lack of precision-guided rockets

Ukrainian authorities have responded to recent attacks, which reportedly aimed to escalate the number of fires within the main city, with damage also attributed to children. According to reports, Russia deployed a significant arsenal, including 350 drones, 40 cruise missiles, and 30 ballistic and supersonic missiles, many of which reportedly failed to reach their targets. Kyiv acknowledged that the Ukrainian air defense system sustained considerable damage due to a critical lack of reconnaissance missiles essential for the Patriot system, which is cited as the sole defense capable of intercepting ballistic missiles.

In response to the escalating threat, Ukrainian President Zelensky appealed to international allies. He urged NATO to impose stringent sanctions tomorrow and on Wednesday to help neutralize Ukraine’s air defense capabilities. Zelensky stated that the necessary “Patriot” missiles are currently held in the allied stockpiles, implying that Russia’s objective is to continue degrading the defensive station.
