Macedonia and Albania to Launch Joint Border Control System

Macedonia and Albania will announce the operational commencement of a One Stop Shop (OS) border control system with the Republic of Albania. This initiative, designed to enhance border management, will integrate three neighboring countries – those not currently part of the Schengen zone – including Macedonia. The system has previously operated with Serbia and Kosovo.

The finalization of the agreement necessitates a contract signing between the Macedonian and Albanian ministries of interior affairs. The announcement detailing this development was made on June 17, 2026, at 7:28 a.m. Initially, the One Stop Shop will be implemented at the Nafashan border crossing.

Subsequent expansion is planned to encompass all remaining border crossings between Macedonia and Albania. This system aims to facilitate a streamlined, efficient, and secure border passage, particularly during peak travel periods. The project represents a significant step in regional cooperation, focusing on a dedicated “shop” environment for border procedures between Macedonia, Albania, and its neighboring countries.

This collaborative effort seeks to optimize border control processes and ensure smooth transit for travelers.
