Multiple Large Fires Impact Croatian Islands and Mainland
Extensive fire activity has been reported across Croatia over the past 24 hours, with firefighters working tirelessly to contain several significant blazes. The situation has impacted multiple locations, including the islands of Hvar and the mainland regions of Šibenik. On the island of Hvar, a substantial fire consumed approximately ten hectares of pine forest and scrubland near St.
Nedela. The operation involved 50 Croatian firefighters supported by 15 vehicles, with assistance also provided by five Canadian personnel. Simultaneously, in the Šibenik area, a major fire spread across approximately 100 hectares encompassing the Dubrava and Podi industrial zones.
More than 70 Croatian firefighters deployed 24 vehicles, aided by four Canadian firefighters, to combat the blaze. Authorities confirmed that at least one residential building was directly impacted by the flames, though efforts were successful in saving several other properties. The prolonged response involved significant resources and continued efforts to fully extinguish the fires.
