Director of the Directorate for Protection and Salvation, Stojanče Angelov, confirmed that the village of Chanikhtë is not currently at risk of being consumed by the blaze. Angelov provided updates on the ongoing efforts to contain the intense fire. He reported that the fire line is actively moving toward Marivo and Kruševo, where ground teams are engaged in continuous efforts to bring the fire under control.
While Angelov acknowledged the extensive nature of the fire line, he expressed optimism that firefighting operations would successfully extinguish the blaze by the close of the day. The response effort involves significant resources, including four “Pinzgauer” vehicles from the DZS, specialized firefighting teams from the Directorate, and personnel from nearby monasteries. In proactive mitigation measures, authorities reported that three monasteries located near the fire line have been dismantled.
Furthermore, controlled burning and the creation of firebreaks have been implemented in the adjacent lowland area. According to Angelov, these measures ensure that there is no immediate danger of the nearby religious sites burning. The focus remains on containing the advancing fire while coordinating these various protective efforts across the affected region.
