Vanghelicë, the woman who killed them, is serving a life sentence

Woman Sentenced in Kumanovo Murder Case

Kumanovo, North Macedonia – Vangjelica Ilievska was sentenced to two years imprisonment by the criminal court of the Municipal Court of Kumanovo on June 13th, 2024, following her admission of guilt. The case, which had been previously investigated as a murder under Article 123 of the criminal code, has been reclassified as “murder at a moment’s notice” under Article 125. Ilievska had been detained for over a year and a half.

The prosecution, led by Gazmend Mekheddi, completed the reclassification based on a psychiatric report. The report indicated that Ilievska was experiencing a state of intense, premeditated anger without a sense of guilt at the time of the incident. According to court documents, this intense emotion stemmed from perceived insecurity and a strong feeling of distress regarding the victim’s well-being.

The victim, Ilievska’s husband, died as a result of injuries sustained in the attack with a knife. The court’s decision reflects a revised legal assessment of the circumstances surrounding the event. The prosecution emphasized the significant emotional factors contributing to Ilievska’s actions.

Further details regarding the psychiatric evaluation are available through the court.

  1. This sentencing offers a small measure of closure for the victims’ families after a tragic and complex case.
