Russia Announces Development of Ebola Vaccine
Russian Minister of Health, Mikhail Murashko, announced the development of a vaccine against the new ebola virus during the International Economic Forum in St. Petersburg. Speaking at the forum’s margins, Murashko detailed the progress made by scientists at the “Gamaleya” Institute.
Previously, the Institute had successfully developed a vaccine against ebola, a highly dangerous acute infectious disease caused by a filovirus. Scientists have adapted this existing vaccine to combat the currently circulating strain, resulting in a ready-made product. Murashko stated that the newly developed vaccine will now proceed through further testing phases.
He emphasized that, at present, ebola does not represent a direct threat to Russia. Symptoms of the disease include fever, general weakness, and severe fatigue. The development highlights Russia’s ongoing efforts in vaccine research and preparedness.
Further updates will be provided as the vaccine undergoes its final stages of evaluation.
