UNICEF Warns of Rising Climate Risks for Children in North Macedonia
Geneva – UNICEF has issued a global warning highlighting the escalating climate risks facing children in North Macedonia, according to data published in the daily bulletin on June 16, 2026. The report details a significant and growing impact on children’s health, development, and overall well-being. The warning indicates widespread vulnerabilities stemming from climate change.
A substantial portion of the country’s crops are experiencing detrimental effects, with approximately 73 percent impacted by drought conditions. Furthermore, the majority of children – 87 percent – are exposed to elevated temperatures, while all children (99.9 percent) face heat exposure. The report emphasizes the urgent need to address these challenges.
UNICEF’s findings underscore the pervasive nature of these risks and their direct consequences for vulnerable populations. The organization’s warning reflects a continued concern regarding the disproportionate impact of climate change on children within North Macedonia. Further investigation and mitigation strategies are deemed crucial to safeguarding the health and future of children.
