The trial proceedings in the main court in Gostivar continued this week, focusing on the ex-director of the Gostivar Municipality, Arta Nushi, and two co-directors associated with the local drinking water initiative. Regarding the initial charges, the court determined that the individuals were to remain in custody for a period of 30 days. Subsequently, the defense attorney representing the two co-directors for the drinking water initiative argued for an extension of pre-trial detention.
The defense requested an additional 30 days, citing procedural requirements related to the defendants’ ability to leave the court premises. As a result of the proceedings, the two co-directors were suspended from their employment and could not be reinstated, leading to a temporary halt on the continuation of the criminal case against them. Moving forward, the two co-directors are required to appear before the judge to meet the necessary conditions for the formal closure of the courtroom proceedings.
Meanwhile, legal counsel, represented by Fatmir Alii, submitted a formal complaint to the judge seeking an alternative measure to replace the current custody order. Despite these procedural actions, the prosecutor maintained the investigation, and the measure of detention was consequently upheld.
