THE RIGHT OF THE PEOPLE TO HAVE A LOCALITY IS PROTECTED – THE SDSM BLOCKS THE REFORMS

Nikola Mitsevski, coordinator of the VU-DPMNE women’s group, reported that negotiations concerning the Electoral Law remained unresolved. Specifically, no consensus was achieved among the coordinators of the women’s group and the non-affiliated representatives participating in the working group tasked with revising the legislation. Mitsevski noted that the SDSM remained engaged in the discussions but has not reached an agreement regarding the proposed model for electronic voting in the diaspora.

Looking ahead, he indicated that the legislative process was anticipated to involve a substantial volume of proposed changes, expecting approximately 10,000 amendments originating from the SDSM, alongside 3,000 amendments from the Left. The Commission for Political Systems and Inter-Party Relations, which is responsible for amending the Electoral Law, is scheduled to convene at 14:00. During the proceedings, a procedural point was raised concerning the allocation of time for points of order, allowing separate groups to present remarks.

The ongoing discussions underscore deep divisions within the political parties regarding the mechanics of future elections. The lack of unified support, particularly from the SDSM concerning key electoral components like remote voting, suggests that the passage of the revised Electoral Law will continue to face significant procedural and ideological hurdles.
