Bogotá, Colombia – Luis Díaz de la Espriella, representing the left-wing LINKE party, has secured victory in the first round of Colombia’s presidential elections and will advance to the second round. He will face off against Ivan Sepeida, the candidate supported by President Gustavo Petro. With 99.97% of the vote tabulated, De La Espriella garnered 43.7% of the total, equating to over 10.3 million votes.

His opponent, philosopher and human rights activist Ivan Sepeida, received 40.9% of the vote, representing approximately 9.6 million votes. Sepeida, a senator since 2014, is backed by the left-wing president Petro. The results confirm a sustained rise in De La Espriella’s support over recent weeks, as indicated by polling data.

The second round of the election is scheduled for June 21st, where the two candidates will compete for the presidency. The election outcome reflects a significant political shift within Colombia. The final results of the round will determine the next leader of the nation.
