Portuguese Prime Minister Costa to Lead EU-Western Balkans Discussions in June
Lisbon – Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa will embark on a diplomatic tour of the Western Balkans in June, serving as the chairman of the EU-Western Balkans Summit. The visit, scheduled for June 5th, will focus on strengthening cooperation and addressing key challenges within the region. Costa’s itinerary includes meetings with leaders across six Western Balkan countries – Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Kosovo – as part of the EU’s ongoing engagement.
The summit will take place in Titovo, Montenegro. According to the Secretariat of the Delegation of the EU in Skopje, the discussions will center on several critical areas. These include the potential and obstacles associated with European Union enlargement, the progression of regional integration, fostering collaborative regional cooperation, and ensuring security and stability throughout the Western Balkans.
“My second tour in the Western Balkans sends a positive signal: the commitment of the EU to the regions is real, as much as it is real and possible for enlargement,” Costa stated. “Now is the time to achieve results.”
The visit underscores the European Union’s continued focus on the Western Balkans and aims to advance dialogue and strategic partnerships within the region. Costa’s presence is intended to reaffirm the EU’s support for the countries of the Western Balkans.
