Appeal Court Upholds Conviction of Individual Involved in Embassy Bus Arson
Skopje, North Macedonia – The Macedonian Appeals Court has upheld the conviction of a 44-year-old Skopje resident in connection with the arson of buses belonging to the Bulgarian Embassy. The ruling followed a proposal by the competent prosecutor regarding charges stemming from an incident investigated under Article 288 of the Criminal Code, concerning the creation of a general danger. The individual, identified as I.D.S., admitted to involvement in the incident.
Following the initial report, Skopje police filed a complaint against him, leading to the case’s clearance. The Macedonian Government strongly condemned the act, describing it as a “violent and unjustifiable act of burning the buses with diplomatic status” that occurred near the Bulgarian Embassy in Skopje. The Bulgarian Ministry of Internal Affairs echoed this condemnation, characterizing the event as “the result of an aggressive political act” in the vicinity of the embassy.
The prosecutor initiated an investigation into the incident, focusing on the individual’s actions and their potential impact. The court’s decision represents the culmination of that legal process.
