‘Safe City’ Project Leads to Significant Reduction in Fatalities in the City

Skopje – The implementation of the “Safe City” project has resulted in a substantial decrease in deaths within the city, according to Minister for Internal Affairs, Panče Todžkovski. The project, designed to enhance public safety, has demonstrably reduced fatalities linked to rule infractions. Data released by the Ministry indicates a significant shift in the city’s mortality rate.

Over the first five months of the current year, the number of deaths attributed to non-enforcement of regulations was reduced to one, a marked contrast to the 17 recorded in the previous year. Prior to the project’s implementation in February, the city experienced 39 deaths during the first five months of the year, with a total of 56 deaths recorded for the entire year. The “Safe City” system, developed over a two-year period under Minister Todžkovski’s leadership, began a trial phase in December 2025.

The Ministry emphasized the project’s importance to the Macedonian people, stating it represents a key initiative for improving public safety within the city. The reduction in fatalities represents a positive outcome following the project’s launch.
