Macedonian text: Some call it the most important book in the last decade. Others say that it opens the dust for a society that is not prepared. The new book “Love and Death” by Zoran Spasov is causing strong reactions.
The author, however, does not say what the story is about, but how it is read. In the novel, Goche Delchev is not presented as a naive symbol, but as a person with doubts, fears and moral dilemmas. For some, it is an essential maturity of culture.
For others, it is a dangerous relativization of national myths. Supporters say that the books are making the nation stronger by teaching them to look at the past with a critical eye. Critics, however, warn that the books are making the nation more vulnerable by teaching it to look at the past with a critical eye.
