THE FIRST FUNCTIONARY WAS APPOINTED TO THE POSITION OF MUNICIPALITY OF THE REPUBLIC OF JAPAN – I WILL REPEAT WRITING THE HISTORY OF THE CITY

The youngest elected mayor in Japan again writes history. With her own distinctive style, she became the first official in the land to break away from the traditional patriarchal work system, opening up a fierce national debate about the outdated and traditional systems of the company, which led to the emergence of the Sy-En-En. The 35-year-old Shocho Kawata, who is the mayor of the city of Iwata (Koto Prefecture), is due to take office in September.

She plans to spend a full 16 weeks away from her post – a first in her own right. As the right to a post is guaranteed for those in the public sector, the laws do not have a clear framework for elected officials, which Kawata has found herself in a legal “gray zone”. Pretty much everything she does, she does with the help of her staff, who are not her direct subordinates.
