“Nabucco” Opera Opening Honors Former Minister at Macedonian Festival
The 54th edition of the “Mayski Operni вечеre” festival concluded with a grand performance of Giuseppe Verdi’s “Nabucco” on June 1, 2026, at 11:10 a.m. at the National Opera and Ballet. The opening was dedicated to the memory of Velkov, the late former Minister of MOB.
The opera was conducted by Yeruham Shakarovski, an international guest, and directed by Renato Bonajuto of Italy. The production featured a rich visual experience, with scenography and costume design by Flavio Arbete and Artemio Cabassi, both from Italy. Choreography was overseen by Maja Mitrovska-Bogojevska, while Kliment Todorovski served as conductor and Jasmina Gjoreiska led the choir.
Italian opera stars performed the principal roles, including Alberto. The performance marked a significant event for the Macedonian opera scene and showcased Verdi’s iconic “Nabucco” to a large audience.
