Skopje Opens Specialized Center for Children’s Thinness Management

The Children’s Clinic in Skopje has announced the opening of a Center for Thinness Management and Treatment for children, in collaboration with the Children’s Health Ministry. The initiative responds to growing concerns regarding childhood malnutrition within the country. Data from the Institute for Health Equality and the Children’s Clinic indicates a significant prevalence of underweight and severely thin children.

Reports suggest that over 30 children between the ages of 6 and 9 years in North Macedonia exhibit a fully grown body weight, while 14 percent are identified with extreme thinness. The newly opened center will provide specialized management and treatment for these children. The launch date is set for June 1, 2026, at 6:00 PM.

Health officials emphasize the seriousness of this issue, recognizing childhood thinness as both a health concern and a critical area for intervention. The center’s establishment represents a long-awaited achievement within the Macedonian health system, aiming to address the identified needs and provide targeted care for affected children. The center’s focus will be on comprehensive management strategies for children experiencing these conditions.

Further details regarding services and access will be released following the official opening.
