Dragi Zmiyanac, representing the Children’s Ambassador Mešāši, voiced concerns regarding the potential health impacts on the children living near Usje following the issuance of a new A-integrated environmental permit for Cetarunica Usje. Zmiyanac questioned the Ministry of Livestock Environment regarding the continued emission of air and dust pollutants. The advocacy group highlighted environmental health risks, citing data from UNICEF investigations.

According to their findings, air pollution represents the most significant threat to child health. Furthermore, the group noted that 11.6 percent of fatal cases in newborns are linked to air and dust emissions. The primary concern centers on the long-term operational requirements of the new permit, which will govern the facility’s capacity over the next six years.

Zmiyanac expressed apprehension about the potential environmental consequences for the local population residing in the vicinity of Usje. The discussion focused on ensuring that any necessary development or operational expansion under the new permit adheres strictly to rigorous environmental standards designed to protect public health. The group emphasized the necessity of mitigating air and dust pollution to safeguard the well-being of the local children.
