The 65th edition of the Struga Poetry Evenings began

The 65th anniversary of the Struga Poetry Evenings, a significant international poetry event, was marked by the traditional burning of the festival’s bonfire and a reading of “T’ga za jug” by Konstantin Mihailov, the son of a poet. The annual gathering continues under the theme, “Where does poetry live,” and is scheduled to run until June 29. This year’s manifestation is anticipated to feature the participation of approximately 70 poets, translators, and literary figures.

Attendees will represent Macedonia alongside diverse international contingents, including participants from Greece, Turkey, Albania, Italy, Mongolia, and Mexico. The opening ceremony was conducted by the president of the country, Gordana Silišanovska-Dakovska. During her address, she paid tribute to Struga, referring to it as “the poet’s city on the planet.” The president highlighted the profound influence of poetry and literature, emphasizing their capacity to effect global change.

The festival serves as a major cultural nexus, drawing literary talent from various nations to celebrate the art of poetry.
