SERBIA HAS CONTROLS ON THE BORDER WITH CROATIA AND UNGARI

Slovenia Implements Temporary Border Controls at Croatia and Hungary Border

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Public Administration of Slovenia announced the implementation of temporary border controls at its internal Schengen border with Croatia and Hungary, effective January 1, 2023, and continuing until December 21, 2023, according to reports from ST. This decision follows a deteriorating security situation in the Balkans and heightened concerns regarding the risk of terrorism. The move was prompted in part by Italy’s introduction of border controls at the Slovenia-Croatia border, citing similar security considerations.

Italy has since withdrawn these controls. Slovenian police will utilize alternative methods of border control, focusing on procedures beyond traditional document checks, with the aim of enhancing the protocol for safeguarding the Schengen area. These controls represent a temporary measure designed to bolster security at the border.

The Slovenian authorities emphasized the importance of this action in contributing to the overall stability and security of the Schengen zone. The implementation reflects a collaborative response to evolving security challenges within the region. The focus remains on maintaining the integrity of the Schengen border while adhering to established security protocols.
