SDSM did not block the law for the Electoral Code

Veno Filipce, the leader of the SDSM, addressed the Assembly regarding a proposed electoral law, a document in the preparation of which the SDSM was reportedly involved. During a press conference, Filipce raised concerns about several aspects of the proposed legislation, describing certain provisions as lacking adherence to European or democratic standards. Consequently, the SDSM announced its intention to block the submission of the law to the Assembly.

Filipce contended that the primary objective of the proposed electoral law was to maintain the power’s control over the voting system, effectively serving to compensate for existing control mechanisms within the electoral process. Specifically, the leader highlighted concerns regarding the proposed electronic voting methods for the diaspora and for voters who may face difficulties in reaching polling stations. He argued that implementing such voting mechanisms, particularly those lacking verification capabilities, would negatively impact the integrity of in-country voting procedures.

The SDSM’s opposition centers on these procedural safeguards, suggesting that the current framework undermines democratic transparency. The debate surrounding this electoral law has drawn significant attention, with the SDSM positioning itself as a key opposition force against the proposed changes.
