SDSM and VMRO-DPMNE are in mutual accusations for the blockade of the Electoral Law

Political tensions remain high surrounding proposed amendments to the Electoral Law, with inter-party accusations continuing to stall the necessary assembly procedures, particularly concerning voting timelines for the diaspora. During a recent press conference, Bogdana Kuseška, spokesperson for SDSM and a member of the party’s Executive Board, leveled accusations against Prime Minister Hristo Misko and VMRO-DPMNE. Kuseška alleged that these groups were misusing the right of the diaspora to vote.

She claimed that such actions were intended to manipulate the fairness of the Electoral Law and potentially disqualify votes cast by citizens abroad. The SDSM emphasized that its objection is not to the fundamental right of the diaspora to participate in elections. Instead, the party stated its opposition to the specific models being proposed by other factions.

According to Kuseška, these alternative models fail to provide adequate assurances of control and fairness for the voting process. “We from SDSM are clear: the diaspora has the right to vote. That right has been and will be exercised by the diaspora.

We are not against that right. We are against those models,” Kuseška stated. The dispute highlights a significant political deadlock over electoral integrity, with the opposing parties continuing to clash over procedural safeguards and the implementation of changes to the national voting framework.
