Saved from summer thirst: FOUNTAINS REPEATLY WATER THE POOLS IN SKOPJE, it is said and new projects are being prepared

The city of Skopje has reinstated over 220 public fountains designated for drinking water, according to Orce Gjorgievski, the mayor. Gjorgievski announced that this initiative aims to provide essential basic amenities to the citizens, particularly in anticipation of high temperatures during the summer months when demand for potable water significantly increases. The mayor addressed the public via Facebook, noting that historically, a substantial portion of the city’s fountains remained unused due to issues related to poor quality, minor defects, and general neglect.

To address this infrastructure gap, the fountains underwent comprehensive revitalization. In coordination with the JPP “Water and Sewerage,” the extensive rehabilitation project involved rebuilding and repairing the necessary systems. As a result, more than 220 drinking water fountains have been successfully restored to service within the city.

These newly repaired and reinstated water sources are expected to be available to the public. The effort underscores the city administration’s focus on maintaining public health infrastructure and ensuring reliable access to drinking water throughout the peak summer period. The reinstatement of these facilities is intended to support the daily needs of the residents as the weather warms.
