Sali Argues New Detention Law Promotes Equality and Builds on Ohrid Agreement
Skopje – First Vice Prime Minister and Minister for European Affairs Bekim Sali presented the proposed law on preliminary detention to the Commission for Political System and Interaction between Assembly participants on Tuesday. The legislation is currently under consideration in its first reading. Sali emphasized the law’s systemic approach to ensuring equal treatment within the legal system.
He stated that the proposal directly responds to discussions surrounding the formation of the government and aims to elevate the concept of preliminary detention to a formalized legal standard. The Minister highlighted the significance of the Ohrid Agreement as a foundational element for Macedonia’s multiethnic character. He explained that the proposal for the law on preliminary and equal treatment was introduced during government negotiations.
