Skopje – The Macedonian Pension and Disability Insurance Fund (PFZI) reported a substantial shortfall in its paid pension and disability insurance payments for the year 2024, totaling 71,435,601 denar. This represents a significant increase from the 14,000,000 denar disbursed in 2023. The total expenditure for penzi in 2024 is estimated at 90,277,241 denar, according to findings established by state auditors.
The auditors’ assessment, based on taxpayer evidence of the Fund’s income, highlights a concerning trend of rising pension expenses. The report details the financial status and results of the Fund’s activities, alongside the approval of related financial transactions, aligning with current legal regulations and policies. The increase in required payments reflects the ongoing growth in the number of pensioners within the system.
The auditors’ objective analysis underscores the need for careful management of the pension system’s finances. Further investigation is expected to examine the underlying causes of this financial strain within the year.
