Macedonian Girl Advocates for Institutional Action on Violence Against Women
Žaklina Peshevska, a representative of the VMRO-DPMNE party, discussed the critical need for institutional responses to violence against women during an appearance on 24 TV’s “Analysis” program. The discussion centered on addressing systemic issues and fostering a collaborative approach to combating this pervasive problem. Peshevska emphasized that effectively tackling violence requires a unified effort involving all institutions and political actors.
She highlighted the importance of comprehensive legal frameworks, referencing ongoing discussions regarding the laws for protection from violence and protection from discrimination. “We agree on the laws,” Peshevska stated. “We have no problem with uniforms.” She underscored the need for public awareness campaigns to address the sensitive nature of women’s rights and related concerns.
Peshevska argued that the topic of women’s issues should be recognized as a priority and that increased public sensitization is crucial for achieving meaningful change. The conversation focused on the necessity of robust institutional measures to prevent and address violence against women, recognizing this as a shared responsibility across all sectors.
