The “Safe City” modern surveillance system officially commenced operation at the national level on February 1st, with implementation now progressing within the municipality of Ohrid. Following a final testing phase conducted yesterday, the camera network was activated in the Novo Selo car park. Subsequently, the system was tested across multiple locations, including Gorniç and Trebinjska streets, as well as along the Koridor 8 and 10 routes.
Local authorities have issued guidance regarding the immediate use of the technology. Specifically, Svr Ohrid has determined that the installed devices will not be utilized for issuing sanctions directly within vehicles. Instead, the equipment will undergo a comprehensive final technical inspection during the concluding phase of deployment.
According to local authorities, the primary objectives of the integrated system are multifaceted. The technology is intended to provide continuous and enhanced surveillance of vehicular traffic, improve the detection rate of traffic offenses, and ultimately contribute to the enhancement of driver discipline throughout the region of Ohrid. This phased rollout aims to ensure that the infrastructure is fully operational and compliant before full enforcement measures are implemented.
