Bulgarian Embassy Urges End to Border Blockade Following Vehicle Vandalism

Skopje – The Bulgarian Embassy in Skopje has called for an immediate cessation of the ongoing blockade of border crossings and the movement of personnel across the border with North Macedonia. The appeal, issued via the embassy’s official Facebook page, was authored by Bulgarian Ambassador to North Macedonia, Zhezek Radukov. The statement expressed gratitude to Bulgarian institutions, organizations, and citizens for their demonstrated support during what the embassy described as “particularly difficult conditions.” This call for de-escalation came shortly after two vehicles belonging to the Bulgarian embassy were set on fire in Skopje.

Despite the incident, the embassy affirmed its support for “the right to peaceful protest as a fundamental right in every true democratic society.” However, it simultaneously urged restraint, specifically requesting that actions “not provoke the blockade of border crossings or the crossing of the border.”

The situation remains tense as authorities investigate the arson attack and diplomats work to maintain diplomatic relations. Further updates will be provided as they become available.
