Harvard University has once again been featured in the Shanghai list of top global institutions. The Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), commonly known as the Shanghai list, released its annual ranking on August 15. The data from this yearly assessment indicates a continuing trend concerning the representation of universities from various regions.
Specifically, there was no university from Macedonia included among the top 1,000 global universities. This pattern is not isolated to Macedonia; several other nations in the region are also unrepresented on the esteemed list. Universities from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, and Montenegro were not ranked among the top 1,000.
Furthermore, Serbia, Bulgaria, and Croatia also lacked a representative university in this year’s compilation. The inclusion of institutions in this prestigious list often reflects a nation’s overall academic standing and the global recognition of its universities. The observed pattern suggests a shift in the global academic landscape, with fewer universities from certain European regions appearing in the top tier of world universities.
