New Vienna to Ohrid Flight Faces Criticism from Transport Minister
Ohrid, Macedonia – Vicepremier and Minister for Transport Aleksandar Nikolovski has expressed concerns regarding the newly launched direct flight between Vienna and Ohrid, which commenced operations on June 22, 2026. The flight, operated twice weekly on Saturdays and Sundays, represents a new connection between the two destinations. According to Nikolovski, the route does not currently translate into a significant increase in foreign tourism to the Ohrid region or contribute substantially to the economic development of the area.
He stated that the Ohrid Airport’s impact remains unchanged. The route, operated by “St. Apostle of Ohrid,” provides a direct connection to a European destination.
Nikolovski emphasized the importance of Ohrid as a key destination within Macedonia. The twice-weekly service aims to facilitate travel between Vienna and Ohrid. Further details regarding passenger numbers and economic impact are pending.
