Significant Road Infrastructure Investments Planned Through 2026
Skopje, North Macedonia – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Aleksandar Nikolovski, announced substantial progress in North Macedonia’s road infrastructure development program at a joint press conference on June 5, 2026. Speaking alongside the Mayor of Skopje and the Director of the World Bank for Macedonia and Kosovo, Karol Medevan, Nikolovski detailed ongoing projects aimed at improving urban mobility. The announcement covers a significant investment period, with approximately 100 kilometers of roads currently completed or in the construction phase slated for completion by June 2026.
Contracts totaling 25.3 million euros have been signed for the reconstruction of local roads across 72 municipalities. To date, 96 streets have been successfully rehabilitated, representing a total length of 72 kilometers. Furthermore, 31 kilometers of roads remain under construction and are currently undergoing reconstruction.
The projects are part of a broader strategy to enhance transportation networks throughout the country. The initiative is supported by the World Bank, reflecting a commitment to sustainable urban development and improved connectivity.
